FM, ECAP, Hearing Aid Guidelines, Wireless Compatibility. We have several papers on AO from our Contributing Editors that I would like to bring to your attention:
- Dawna Lewis, Ph.D., has published an article on the Electroacoustic Evaluation of Advanced FM Systems. She gives advice on when you should consider using the FM advantage approach vs. the newer FM offset procedure.
- Michelle Hughes, Ph.D., from Boys Town has written a great "ECAP Techniques and Tips"article. This is Part 2 of a series on ECAP by Dr. Hughes, Part 1 "ECAP in Speech Processor Programing" was published in March, 2006 on AO.
- Michael Valente, Ph.D., gives an overview and background on how the AAA Guideline for Audiologic Management of the Adult Patient was developed. Evidence based practice (EBP) is becoming a growing (and needed) trend in the field and this provides some interesting insight. Be sure to read the last section "Personal Thoughts on Some Possible Limitations on EBP". Dr. Valente gives his opinion on this topic as only he can.
- Linda Kozma-Spytek, Au.D., is one of the leading experts on hearing aid compatibility. If you have any patients coming in asking about what mobile phones work with their hearing aids, her paper, Hearing aid Compatibility for Digital Wireless Phones will be very helpful.
- AAS Call for Papers
- Dr. Kenneth Berger Honored with Endowed Scholarship
- New VNG Software from Interacoustics
- FDA Approvalof Harmony(tm) HiResolution® Bionic Ear System
- ABR Pretty Dog-Gone Versatile
- Finally, check out our "Around The Web" feature. The current edition features the mystery behind the screech of fingernails on a chalkboard, a father earns his Au.D. for his son, cochlear implants for a firefighter and infant cancer survivor, hearing loss due to bagpipes or the New York subway, a tribute to Marion Downs, lawsuit for Motorola Bluetooth devices, and more.
