Lafayette, IN - Donations are now being accepted to help fund an endowed scholarship in honor of Kenneth W. Berger, Ph.D. Dr. Berger was the director of audiology at Kent State University for 20 years, and a competitive scholarship is expected to be awarded from the endowment each year to a Doctor of Audiology student at the Northeast Ohio Au.D. Consortium (NOAC). Dr. Berger died in 1994 at age 70.

Dr. Berger developed the first hearing aid prescription fitting method in the United States, and established the world's largest collection of hearing aids (over 2,600) as curator of Kent State University's Hearing Aid Museum and Archives. Dr. Berger also published prolifically during his lifetime and, just before his death, was presented with the American Auditory Society's Lifetime Achievement Award.

"The Audiology Foundation of America is pleased to support professional education for future Doctors of Audiology by helping to collect funds for this endowed award," said AFA Chair Kenneth L. Lowder, Au.D. "Donating in Professor Berger's memory will keep his influence and work alive into the future. This is a wonderful tribute to a long and successful career educating audiologists and preserving the history of audiology and the hearing aid."

AFA Director Eric Hagberg, Au.D., a former student and colleague of Dr. Berger, is leading the endowment fund drive. Donations to the Kenneth W. Berger, Ph.D. Memorial Scholarship fund may be made on the AFA's secure website (www.audfound.org) or by mail at 8 N. Third St., Suite 406, Lafayette, IN 47901.

The AFA is a non-profit foundation founded in 1989 to lead audiology's transition to a doctoring profession with the Au.D. as its unique designator.
