University Outreach Program

The end of Summer, the start of Fall. For me, it means college football games on Saturday and some nicer weather for riding my bicycle down here in Texas. For the many audiology programs around the US, it is time to gear up for the start of another busy school year. Audiology Online feels very strongly about supporting the education of students and so we are so happy to announce the launch of our University Outreach program.

What is so great about this program? We give you full access to the entire Audiology Online library of course materials - for free. A packet was sent out a few weeks ago with information on this groundbreaking opportunity to many program directors and faculty around the US - but if you would like more information, please contact me via email at editor@audiologyonline.com to find out more.

Hearing Aid Benefit Over Time

How many times have you said to a patient, "Don't worry Mrs. Razzlefrazz, there is a 30-day trial period." Have you ever then asked yourself, "Is that enough time to adjust to hearing aids?" One of our Contributing Editors, Dr. Brian Taylor, provides an evidence based review of the literature to see what the data can tell us about this important question.

Options for Unilateral Hearing Loss

Patients with unilateral hearing losses can present unique challenges as a part of a hearing aid fitting. Please review our course library for the recorded version of Dr. Michael Valente's e-Seminar presented on October the 3rd, "Fitting Options for Unilateral Hearing Loss." He provides a good overview of what the most current options are for these patients.

Around the Web in 60 Seconds

The current edition of "Around the Web" (ATW) includes: Internet hearing aid sales in Japan, Prosthetic ears, Miss America 2005, A gene for perfect pitch, A diamond and gold encrusted hearing aid and much more. Read about these and other stories in the latest edition of ATW.

Please take time view additional AO news and information links listed to the right of this email and on our home page, and as always, thanks for reading.
