We need to incorporate more than hearing aids and hearing loss into our practice. Social and emotional issues must be addressed also.

While I work with children, adolescents and young adults the information here regarding social and emotional impacts of hearing loss on adults can easily be applied to the population I serve as well. I found this course very informative. I look forward to accessing the.A.I.M.E.R. Program’s resources to help me better serve the social and emotional needs of my HI students. Thank you.

I have been interested in the social-emotional and body/mind connections for my whole life and have applied it in practice before. I am not a licensed psychologist, but the practices outlined in this course can help to guide an audiologist to include this approach.

I liked the real examples, like the client whose sister passes that day and by acknowledging her shock and grief needed time, it created a trusting bond that cannot be replaced. Coworkers consider me slow, but they don’t always have the loyalty from their patients that I do. Know your clients. They are older and slower and need that from us as practitioners.

I feel like this gives me the opportunity to bring what I have been trying to implement in all of my practice environments for years. Additional resources shining light on the need for this empathetic relationship with your patients might be something I could take to the managers in my work world to help motivate the development of programs that would make this possible.

She has hit on an under addressed factor regarding the improving of confidence and social involvement for our patents. This is critical. It is probably a greater service to our patients in conjunction with properly fitted hearing aid help and accessories than has been considered. The patients knowing they are not alone in their fears and concerns is also reassuring.

I love this, if they've had hearing loss for 5-7+ years and are now coming to you it's likely because there's now a strong emotion behind it. Hearing is what connects us to people and that involves relationships and emotions so talking about that is a must

patients realize that they have a hearing loss, and some get discouraged when the hearing aids are not the "end all" best in "curing the loss". this 20Q format gave helpful suggestions: using the terminology that the patients use to describe their situation, while dialoging with patients; emphasizing the use of empathy towards patients.

As an audiologist I find myself frequently delving into my patient's mental well being because hearing loss has such an impact on their social and emotional health. Some patients are very forthcoming about the impact hearing loss has on them and some aren't as open. This helped me understand their thoughts + feelings + coping strategies more and how to better respond/address them.

Material was easy to understand. Presenter made it clear that as audiologists we need to take the time to listen to our patients. When they are functioning well emotionally, stress is reduced and I believe the patient can more fully engage with and appreciate their hearing aids. And they will want to engage in more listening situations. Information for communication partners is important-she emphasized this.

This course provides a different and informative perspective on social and emotional well-being in patients who receive hearing technology that often is glossed over. The audiologist effectively emphasizes the importance on addressing this issue in audiology while maintaining a boundary in what is no longer within the scope of our practice.

This course was reassuring to me that as audiologist play many roles, to include helping patients to understand the role that their hearing loss plays in their lives. Hearing loss can play a negative role in the social and emotional aspect of a patients wellbeing. This course provided really good information regarding how to assist patients, within our scope of our practice, with their social and emotional well being as a result of hearing loss.

In my personal experience with severe profound loss fatigue from webinars and live seminars loved to participate, I try then gets too much hence the text course so helpful. ‘They would describe attending busy social functions and feel like they could hear better, but then begin to feel fatigued and leave the party early. Some would mention how they used to participate in activities like Rotary, book clubs, or knitting circles but now felt too overwhelmed to give it another try’.
