Very interesting how HRT's impact on the ear isn't common knowledge, even though it predates our profession, and most audiologists themselves are women. Example of how DEI actually benefits everybody.

Poor connection between learning outcomes and actual presentation. The presenters were very tangential and did not stay on the learning outcomes as required by the course. The questions were very difficult to answer because of the poor presentation style.

It covered a lot of new material and topics that are never brought up in grad school so I feel like I learned a lot, especially about the specific roles of HRT and certain drugs (like those that treat HIV and AIDs) when it comes to hearing loss and vestibular issues that I never knew about. I can take this knowledge with me for better case history with patients in the future.

I was interested in the overall topic; however, this increased my interest particularly with respect to changes within the cochlear and vestibular systems. I would like to see actual human longitudinal studies with respect to hearing and auditory system changes due to hormone therapies... if we knew more then maybe we would follow these patients more closely for these subtle changes prior to the person being aware and increase the early access to hearing aids.

Overall, I enjoyed the lecture. However, it was not clear to me that the portion regarding how hormones affect the auditory/vestibular system was referencing gender-affirming hormone replacement therapy. I have not read the cited articles, but within the lecture the hormone levels did not seem to have been altered with medication. I wonder if whether HRT being started prior or post puberty would have an effect on these results as well.

I felt that the speakers used too many highly charged adjectives when presenting facts. Facts are fine, but the inclusion of so many strong (and might I say "political") adjectives actually took away from the important ideas of inclusivity. I understand the lack of research in this area, but I didn't like overuse of conjecture based statements about impacts on auditory/vestibular systems. And, how do I ask someone what his/her/they hormone levels are??
