I would have given it an excellent rating were it not for the misleading information about Geers et al. (2017). This study has a correlational design, and any discussion of it should make this point clear. Although this course does include an alternate possible explanation for these study results (i.e. that the children who struggled more with spoken language after implantation continued to use sign language and those who struggled less did not continue to use sign language), that alternate explanation is an afterthought. This course has a clear bias toward the possible explanation that sign language is the cause of spoken language delays, and that impacts my level of trust in the other information provided in this course regarding interpretation of the cited research. For once, I would like to see other members of my profession discussing Geers et al. (2017) in a way that acknowledges all possible explanations for the results equally. Not to do so is intellectually dishonest and is a disservice to every audiologist or other professional who takes this course.

Interesting and potentially misleading facts about the study that showed less intervention (therapy) as more effective than more intervention and that it is all due to the fact that less intervention is needed when cochlear implants are implanted at earlier ages.
