This course discusses trends and changes impacting audiology, and the opportunities these factors have for audiology care. Specifically, topics discussed will include: consequences of age-related hearing loss; hearing loss co-morbidities; recommendations of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine in regard to hearing care; dementia and hearing loss, including dementia screening. This 3-hour course is a recording of a session at the 2016 Academy of Doctors of Audiology 2016 AuDACITY conference.

Brian Taylor, AuD, is Senior Director, Clinical Affairs, for Turtle Beach/Hypersound. He continues to serve as Editor of Audiology Practices, the quarterly publication of the Academy of Doctors of Audiology. During the first fifteen years of his career, he practiced clinical audiology in both medical and retail settings. Since 2005, Dr. Taylor has held a variety of leadership & management positions within the hearing aid industry in both the United States and Europe. He has published over 50 articles and book chapters on topics related to hearing aids, diagnostic audiology and business management. Brian has authored three text books: Fitting and Dispensing Hearing Aids (co-authored with Gus Mueller), Consultative Selling Skills for Audiologists, and Quality in Audiology: Design & Implementation of the Patient Experience. His latest book, Marketing in an Audiology Practice, was published in March, 2015.
Dr. Beck began his career at the House Ear Institute in Los Angeles, CA. By 1988, he was Director of Audiology at Saint Louis University. Eight years later he co-founded an audiology and dispensing practice in St Louis. In 1999, he became Editor-In-Chief of AudiologyOnline.com, SpeechPathology.com and HealthyHearing.com. Dr. Beck joined Oticon in 2005 as Director of Professional Relations. From 2008 through 2015, Beck was the Web Content Editor for the American Academy of Audiology (AAA). As of Jan 1, 2016, Dr Beck he serves as Senior Editor for Clinical Research at the Hearing Review. Dr. Beck is among the most prolific authors in audiology with 148 published articles, more than 1250 abstracts, interviews and op-eds written for the AAA (2008-2015) and AudiologyOnline (1999-2005) addressing a wide variety of audiology and professional topics.
Dr. Weinstein is a Professor of Audiology and the Founding Executive Officer of Health Sciences Doctoral Programs. She is the author of both editions of Geriatric Audiology and the Hearing Handicap Inventory. Weinstein has focused her endeavors on the role of audiologists in improving the quality of life of older adults. The focus of her research has been on epidemiology, psychosocial correlates of hearing loss, patient centered care, and outcomes assessment.
