This presentation will describe the effects of cochlear implantation on the vestibular system. Information regarding symptoms, evaluation, and potential long-term consequences will be reviewed.

Debara L. Tucci, M.D., M.S., M.B.A., is Professor of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, at Duke University. Dr. Tucci has a clinical/surgical practice in otology, neurotology, and skull base surgery and also conducts basic science and clinical research, both at Duke University and at the VA Medical Center in Durham NC. Prior to medical school, she received an M.S. in Audiology from the University of Michigan and worked as a clinical audiologist for 4 years at University of Virginia Hospital. She is co-investigator on a grant funded by the National Institutes of Health that focuses on establishing a network of academic and community-based research sites to conduct clinical research in hearing and balance disorders, and principal investigator of a grant to study health care policy related to hearing health care in adults. Dr. Tucci's leadership roles in professional societies have included President of the American Auditory Society, American Neurotology Society, Association for Research in Otolaryngology, and President of the American Otological Society. She has served an elected position on the Board of Directors for the American Academy of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery. She completed a year-long leadership training program, Executive Leadership for Academic Medicine, and holds an M.B.A. degree with a certificate in Health Sector Management from the Duke Fuqua School of Business.
