Worthington Receives Larry Mauldin Award for Excellence at 14th Annual AAA Convention

CHICAGO - Beltone Electronics Corporation awards the coveted Larry Mauldin Award for Excellence in Education to Don W. Worthington, Ph.D., at the 14th Annual American Academy of Audiology Convention in Philadelphia. Worthington is currently the Director of the IHC Hearing and Balance Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The award was created to honor the accomplishments of the late Larry Mauldin and his work and commitment to education in the field of audiology. Presented since 1999, the award is given to an industry leader committed to continuing education and unselfishly giving back to the profession, the community and the hearing impaired. The recipient of this special honor is nominated and selected by industry peers and Beltone sponsors the award.

"Larry Mauldin was a true friend and professional colleague and it is an honor to be recognized by my peers for this award," said Worthington.

Worthington began his career at a private practice in Illinois, before moving on to serve as an audiologist in the United States Army, where he became the first non-medical Director of the Army Audiology and Speech Center. He was also the Audiology Consultant to the Army Surgeon General. In addition, Worthington served as Director of Audiology and Speech Pathology for Boys Town National Research Hospital.

Worthington has been actively involved in several industry organizations, including American Auditory Society, Ear, Nose and Throat Devices Panel of the Food and Drug Administration, Veteran Administration Hearing Aid Program, American Academy of Audiology, legislative counselor for American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and others. In addition, Worthington has authored and co-authored numerous publications on hearing care issues and has taught at some of the nation's top universities and colleges.

Worthington received his B.S. in Elementary Education (Biological Science) and M.S. in Audiology and Speech Pathology from Utah State University. He received his Ph.D., in Audiology from Northwestern University.
