With Funding from Oticon Pediatrics, Sertoma, Inc. Awards $12,000 in Scholarships to Students with Hearing Loss

Somerset, NJ, June 30 - A $12,000 grant from Oticon Pediatrics enabled Sertoma, Inc. to award $1,000 scholarships to 12 outstanding college-bound students with hearing loss. The winning students with mild to profound hearing loss were selected from over 275 entries received from students across the country. This is the ninth year that Oticon Pediatrics has lent its "student friendly" support to Sertoma's scholarship program for young people with hearing loss.

"At Oticon Pediatrics, we believe that young people with hearing loss have the potential to make enormous contributions to the world. Throughout their childhood, we aim to provide optimum hearing solutions that give students with hearing loss the support they need to excel in and outside of the classroom," said Sheena Oliver, AuD, MBA, Manager, Oticon Pediatrics, "Through the Sertoma scholarship program, we extend that support to help them acquire the higher education they need to achieve their goals."

The 2009 scholarship winners are: Garima Agrawal, Rochester Institute of Technology;Sara Alexander, University of Buffalo;Colin Analco, Gallaudet University;Daniel Connors, University of Alabama;Robert Dooling, Rochester Institute of Technology;Jacqueline Drexler, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill;Alexa Garfinkel, Colorado State University;Kelsie Graham, Middle Tennessee State University;Courtney Hammond, Eastern Washington University;Kelly Ann McCrary, Rochester Institute of Technology;Rahul Rajagopalan, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Sara Sapp, University of Florida.

Students may use their scholarship awards for any school-related expenses including tuition, books and supplies during any academic term, including summer term.

Oticon is a long time supporter of the educational initiatives of Sertoma, Inc., one of the oldest civic service clubs in the U.S. promoting civic responsibility through community service.
