Beck: Hi John. Thanks for your time today. I understand you have new wireless CROS and BiCROS news to share with the Audiology Online readers?

Pumford: Yes Doug. I'm happy to tell you our new WiFi Mic System offers wireless technology in either a CROS or BiCROS format to help those with asymmetrical hearing loss. The WiFi Mic CROS is for individuals with unaidable hearing loss in one ear and normal hearing to a mild high frequency hearing loss in the better ear. The WiFi Mic BiCROS is for people with unaidable hearing loss in one ear and a significant degree of hearing loss in their better ear.

Beck: Is the WiFi Mic available across all of your product lines?

Pumford: As of September, 2004, Liaison and the new Unison 6, 3 and Essential models are compatible with our WiFi Mic System.

Beck: So then, if you wanted to use the WiFi Mic as a CROS with the Unison 6, how do you go about making that work?

Pumford: When the professional orders the WiFi Mic system, they'll get a wireless transmitter microphone and a receiver module. The receiver module is easily attached to the hearing aid where the battery door was located originally, similar to an FM boot. The transmitter mic, which is housed within a BTE shell, is placed on the unaidable side. And of course, because the WiFi Mic employs wireless technology, there are no cords or wires between the two components. The information is sent from the mic to the receiver wirelessly. As our WiFi Mic System provides the flexibility to function as either a CROS or BiCROS, the professional would then use our software to program the desired format. It's important to understand that the wireless technology in our WiFi Mic offers many benefits, but using this technology with our digital hearing aids makes it better still, as we can perform many functions at one time with regard to sound processing.

Beck: Very good John. This is terrific news for the professionals that prescribe CROS and BiCROS hearing aids.

Pumford: Thanks Doug. For more information readers can visit our website for the Flash Presentation on this technology and to view our WiFi Mic support materials
