Lafayette, IN- Otoscopes are the basic instrument for audiologists just like stethoscopes are for physicians. Widex's donation of 85 otoscopes to the Audiology Foundation of America (AFA) will provide a good start for students in AuD programs around the country. The AFA, founders of the AuD, continues its efforts to make the AuD the standard for professional entry.
For several years, Audiology Foundation of America directors have traveled to universities with an Outstanding AuD scholarship winner to present a plaque, and otoscopes for all third year students in the program. The AFA provides a brief seminar about professional behavior and attitudes that helps put students in the right mind-frame to envision themselves as autonomous practitioners and budding experts in hearing and balance care.
"The donation of these otoscopes from Widex's sister company, Hal Hen, will allow the AFA to continue to provide support to students as they begin their clinical rotations and go off campus for externships", according to Deborah R. Price, Au.D., Audiology Foundation of America's Vice Chair. "We are most appreciative of Mr. Ron Meltsner, Widex's President, and Vice President Mr. Eric Spar, for their generosity and support of the profession's educational upgrade to the AuD degree."
