Lafayette, IN - The white coat has been a medical fixture since the late 19th century and has always been rich in symbolism. It denotes scientific rigor and seriousness. Most U.S. medical schools have conducted white coat ceremonies since the mid 1990's. As audiology transitions to a doctoral profession it is important that it, too, develops a similar tradition. Last year the AFA supported 66 students at five schools.
To support and encourage this tradition, the Audiology Foundation of America is offering sponsorships for white coat ceremonies at Au.D. programs. These sponsorships are awarded on a first come, first serve basis. More information about the sponsorships and guidelines for applying can be found on the AFA's website at: audfound.org/.
