Westone celebration marks two groovy anniversaries.
Westone Laboratories, Inc. recently celebrated two important milestones in modern history at their annual company picnic.
It was in 1959 that Westone was founded in the kitchen of Ron and Mickey Morgan. In the ensuing four decades, Westone has grown from its modest beginnings to become the world's largest manufacturer of custom earmolds, HPDs, and supplier of products to the hearing health care industry.
Ten years later, an event occurred that many consider to be a turning point in U.S. culture (of course, it's been said that if you can truly remember the '60s then you weren't really there). That was the legendary Woodstock music festival, held in upstate New York in August of 1969.
Thus, with two events of such significance to honor, on August 21, the entire staff of Westone Laboratories took to the mountains west of the company's Colorado Springs headquarters to celebrate 'Westock, a day of peace, love, joy, food, fun and music.' The atmosphere was one of 'make earmolds, not war.'
Actually, it was a fine Colorado day of fishing, horseback riding, horseshoes, games, camaraderie, beer and barbecue for Westone personnel and their families. Some outstanding live rock & roll was provided by 'The Psychedelic Earmolds', a gathering of talented Westone employees, all of whom had been professional musicians during the '60s and '70s. While the hairlines and waistlines have changed a bit from 1969, their skills have not diminished over the years.
The annual Westone picnic is a way for the company to say 'thank you' to its staff for their dedication and hard work throughout the year. So what milestones will Westone celebrate next year? According to president Randy Morgan, 'I don't know, but we always find something!'
