At Westone, our answer is almost always "yes." Sometimes, after we have answered yes to a customer request, we have to huddle together and ask the question of ourselves "Does anyone know what a fill-in-the-blank is?" This "can do" attitude has allowed us to attain, and retain, our position as the premier source of the industry's earmold needs. It has also greatly expanded our offerings to you and your patients.
One example of this is our swimplug business. Years ago, we developed and introduced our AquaNot™ and Swyrl™ swimplugs. The material we use to make these swimplugs allows them to float. It's such a great material for earplugs that many dispensers started requesting that we use the same material for some styles of earmolds. Of course, our answer was yes. And so, AquaNot became not only a name for our swimplugs, but also a material choice for other applications.
The AquaNot material is also an outstanding selection for noise protection as it has the best NRR available. We regularly receive orders for our Style #40 made from the AquaNot material. This is essentially an AquaNot swimplug; the difference being that the AquaNot comes with a handle by default, while the Style #40 is available in all materials and the handle is an option. To avoid confusion when ordering AquaNots for noise protection, always indicate whether your client would like handles or not. If you don't provide this information, we have to pull your order from production, begin the phone tag game, and wait for further instructions.
We frequently get requests for clear AquaNot swimplugs. Due to the nature of the microspheres that give AquaNots their buoyancy, we are limited to opaque colors only.
Due to popular demand, we started making AquaNots with a shiny finish last year. Some folks still want the matte finish and it is still available upon request. Simply indicate "matte finish" in the special instructions box on your order form.
One last thought. There is no default color when selecting Style AQ. The colors available are: blue, pink, green, yellow, orange, purple, red, beige, brown, black and white. If you choose the Swyrl swimplugs, your patient may select two or three colors to be used.
