The AuDonline.org distance education Au.D. Degree program continues to grow. We estimate there will be 240 students enrolled in the January 7, 2002 session. During the last session we received 42 new applications. 40 audiologists are enrolled in the Track 2 program for newly licensed graduates. In fact, several experienced audiologists have opted for Track 2 knowing they were going to request 20 or more courses be included in their curriculum. The average number of courses for Track 1 experienced audiologists is now 13. Many students choose to register for two courses some sessions (not every session).
As of December 4, 2001 we have received over 350 applications. Approximately 100 candidates are awaiting the results of the EPAC evaluation which takes 6-8 weeks to process. 27 Audiologists have completed the program and received their Au.D. diploma. We anticipate approximately 60 audiologists will complete all requirements prior to the May 2002 commencement.
Military and VA Audiologists, as well as clinical instructors from residential Au.D. programs, continue to enroll in the program. We believe the proctored comprehensive examination, which is weighted to the classes taken and provides a mechanism for verifying student participation, as well as justification for allowing advanced standing in a majority of classes, is the reason the distance education program is regarded with a high degree of integrity by the profession.
Upon receiving final approval for the Residential Au.D. Degree program we officially opened the Doctor of Audiology section of the College's website, www.pco.edu. The School is prepared to accept 15 students into the Au.D. Class of 2006 (begin Fall 2002). Potential applicants may download information and an official application from the website. A brochure describing the details of the residential program has been developed and is available by calling the PCO School of Audiology at 215-7801238 or Email directly to paula@pco.edu. The brochure will be distributed to potential students and college health career advisors.
Recruitment for two full-time residential faculty members was recently launched. We anticipate eight new positions over the next few years. We are pleased to announce that the first position has been filled by George A. Lindley, Ph.D., a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and former assistant professor in the Towson Au.D. Program.
Check the AAA (audiology.org) or Audiology Online (www.audiologyonline.com) websites for a description of the open position.
