Tinnitus Treatment Survey

Share:

The Better Hearing Institute (BHI) in collaboration with Dr. Richard Tyler of the University of Iowa is exploring tinnitus treatment practices in America. Dr. Tyler has recently edited The Consumer Handbook for Tinnitus, available from Auricle Inc. publishers. BHI indicates that the presence of tinnitus among people with hearing loss may serve as a key obstacle in seeking the services of a hearing healthcare professional. If it can be demonstrated that the hearing health industry provides significant benefit for hearing loss and concurrent mitigation for some people with tinnitus, then BHI can generate positive public relations to motivate more people to seek the services of a hearing healthcare professional earlier in their lives.

Audiologists, hearing instrument specialists and otolaryngologists are requested to complete a short survey on tinnitus treatment in their practices to assist in these efforts. The survey is available at www.betterhearing.org/tinnitus.

The results will be analyzed and published. Additionally, a section of MarkeTrak VIII (December/2008) will address tinnitus prevalence and customer satisfaction with current modalities including effectiveness of hearing aids in tinnitus treatment.

About BHI

Founded in 1973, the Better Hearing Institute is a not-for-profit educational organization whose mission is to educate the public about hearing loss, its treatment and prevention. For more information, visit www.betterhearing.org. Visit www.hearingaidtaxcredit.org to learn more about BHI's campaign to spur passage of a federal tax credit of up to $500 per hearing aid for children and adults with hearing loss. About 40 percent of people who do not use hearing aids say they would be more likely to purchase them in the near future if the tax credit were available.
