''Texas Connect'' Resource and Reference Guide Now Available

Share:
The 'Texas Connect' resource and reference guide is a very useful collection of names, addresses, resources and other materials for hearing professionals and the patients they serve. This valuable resource is offered to audiologists and hearing instrument specialists.

The Texas Connect Project was developed to provide educational materials to health care professionals and to families of infants and young children who are deaf or hard of hearing. The project was made possible through a grant from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to the UTD/Callier Center for Communication Disorders in Dallas, Texas. Materials designed for families include the Texas Connect Family Resource Guide and the Texas Connect Topic Cards. Both are available in English and Spanish and are also available in both languages via the internet at www.callier.utdallas.edu/txc.html.

Great effort was put into planning and production of materials to provide families with a comprehensive range of viewpoints, information and resources. To assist in developing materials that were accurate and effective, the help of many people both within and outside of the UTD Callier Center was sought and obtained. Participants included: UTD/Callier Center clinical and educational staff and graduate students as well as area audiologists, deaf educators, speech-language pathologists, families of children with hearing loss, and individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Texas Connect Family Resource Guide includes sections on:
  • Parent to Parent Section (stories written by parents for parents)

  • Navigating the Texas System (a chart outlining the process from referral to intervention)

  • Frequently asked Questions (questions often asked by parents)

  • Terms and Definitions (communication, hearing, services and community)
