Industry Donors and Music Enthusiasts Bring Success to Charity Fundraiser

Walnut Creek, CA—February 1, 2005Wrapping up its first online auction, The Mix Foundation for Excellence in Audio has announced that the TEC Awards Music and Sound Auction raised more than $22,000 for hearing health awareness programs. Proceeds were distributed to H.E.A.R. (Hearing Education and Awareness for Rockers) and the House Ear Institute's Sound Partners campaign, and will also benefit other audio educational and scholarship programs supported by the Mix Foundation.

Held in conjunction with the 20th Annual TEC Awards, the auction ran on eBay from October 21 through November 7, 2004, and featured donated audio gear and musical instruments from 38 leading manufacturers, studio time and services from top audio facilities, and art, photos and tour paraphernalia from celebrated rockers—bringing an overwhelming response from audio enthusiasts and music fans. Among the many quick-to-go items were Mackie audio software, Meyer Sound UPA-1P loudspeakers signed by John Meyer, microphones from Audio-Technica, Audix and Shure, a Robert Moog-signed Moogerfooger, a Gibson guitar signed by Janet Jackson, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, artwork by Jerry Garcia, Aerosmith-autographed Zildjian symbols, and a CD collection signed by Willie Nelson. Over 200 items were sold, many of them shipped to bidders directly from donating organizations. "Besides excitement over the cool stuff, many of the bidders expressed enthusiasm for the chance to support the cause of hearing conservation," said auction manager and H.E.A.R. founder, Kathy Peck. "They repeatedly remarked that they were gratified to know that the money spent would help solve a problem they care something about."

"We're thrilled with the results of our first-ever online auction," says Mix Foundation president, Hillel Resner. "We exceeded what we expected to bring in and it's largely due to the generosity of numerous companies in the pro audio industry who donated equipment and software. Our thanks to them, and also to all the bidders who help make the TEC Awards Music and Sound Auction such a huge success."

The auction was presented by the Mix Foundation for Excellence in Audio and managed by H.E.A.R., a nonprofit organization dedicated to informing musicians and the public about the prevention of hearing impairment in the music environment.
