San Antonio, TX, October, 1999-- In support of new programs at Sunshine Cottage, The Marcia & Otto Koehler Foundation, G.A.C. Halff and Kronkosky Foundations have awarded the school generous grants. The latter, in the amount of $80,000, is the largest single foundation grant Sunshine Cottage has received in its history.
The Koehler Foundation grant of $15,000 will allow the school to purchase additional computer lab equipment for its ACCESS Studio (Applying Computers Creatively to Enhance Student Skills).
Sunshine Cottage educators will be able to attend computer courses at Region 20 and several will attend a national education conference in technology.
In August, the Kronkosky Foundation informed the school of an $80,000 grant in support of the Newborn Evaluation Center.
'This grant will allow Sunshine Cottage to move ahead on schedule with a major new program that has the potential to make a radical difference in the lives of children born with hearing loss,' says Carolyn Walthall, executive director. 'Details of the program will be announced in December; for now, we are able to keep its development on track through the awarding of this landmark grant.'
A grant of $5,000 from the Halff Foundation also will contribute significantly towards the development of the school's new early testing program.
