More Than 300 Industry Leaders from Six Countries
Minneapolis, Nov. 19, 2008 - Starkey Laboratories, Inc., one of the world's leading hearing technology companies, hosted Starkey 2008-2018: Voyage into the Future at the Géode in Paris, France, this fall. The event focused on Starkey's evidence-based design, current projects underway at the Starkey Hearing Research Center including cognition and hearing, music processing and binaural hearing, and an overview of Starkey's research philosophy. The evening ended with Q&A session and panel discussion hosted by journalist Laurent Broomhead, a French TV host.
"This was a momentous event for Starkey," said Phil Lyons, Vice President of International Operations. "We had the opportunity to share our vision of the future with key opinion leaders from around Europe, and do it in the City of Science—what could be better?"
Starkey leadership including President Jerry Ruzicka, Chief Technical Officer Tim Trine, and Vice President of Research and Development Brent Edwards were the main speakers at the event. Attendees came from around Europe including France, Germany, Italy, England and from as far away as Canada and the United States.
The location of the event - la Géode - was an appropriate metaphor for the event's topics since it is located directly outside the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie (City of Science and Industry). La Géode is a metallic sphere housing France's leading Imax movie theater, so dubbed for both the number of visitors and its devotion to the projection of large-scale films on a giant, hemispheric screen. The building opened in May 1985 on what was originally a farming village in a small Parisian suburb.
