Starkey Hosts the California 2008 Winter Scientific Conference

Conference Focuses on the Art and Science of Hearing Aids

Minneapolis, Dec. 8, 2008 - Starkey Laboratories, Inc., one of the world's leading hearing technology companies, hosted the California 2008 Winter Scientific Conference: The Art and Science of Hearing Aid Design, Development, and Application in Newport Beach, Calif., Dec. 5-6, 2008. The event featured some of the best and brightest minds working on hearing solutions. It incorporated a variety of in-depth research topics related to hearing aids including translational research that is bringing innovation to hearing aid technology;cognitive science that is revolutionizing our understanding of hearing aid benefits;and user-experience research that is driving award-winning hearing aid design.

"This conference gave us the opportunity to talk about some of the exciting research we are working on at our facilities in Berkeley, Calif., and Eden Prairie, Minn., to help make hearing aids better for patients."

In addition to the topics already mentioned, the conference covered a number of other subjects including:

  • The hidden dangers in verification issues and solutions in directionality
  • Designing a hearing aid from the ground up
  • Training patients to optimize performance and reduce returns
  • The integration of art and science in Starkey products
In addition to the research topics presented, participants were able to interact with multimedia demonstration modules which highlighted Starkey's research projects, as well as counseling and fitting tools incorporated into Starkey's Inspire® OS 3.1 software.
