Kalyani MallelaMINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 21, 2013 - Starkey Hearing Technologies’ Kalyani Mallela was recently honored by DiscoverE as a 2014 New Faces of Engineering honoree. The 2014 class includes 13 emerging young professionals from across the country who are providing innovative solutions in energy, technology, water resources, national security and the environment. Mallela works as a Systems Engineering Supervisor at Starkey Hearing Technologies, where she leads a cross-functional team working to develop cutting-edge hearing aid technology.

Since 2003, the New Faces of Engineering award has recognized the outstanding abilities of young engineers (age 30 or younger) who have done work to significantly impact the public welfare. This highly-coveted award is recognized as a top honor for young engineers by their peers in the engineering community. This year, for the first time, the program is underwritten by anchor sponsor TE Connectivity.

Each year, DiscoverE receives nominations for the award from national engineering societies across the country. Mallela was nominated by the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), where she currently serves the as the president of the Minnesota section. Through this work she has served as an inspiration for aspiring engineers through classroom visits, mentoring and other work.

“Being honored as New Faces of Engineering is a recognition of my contributions as an engineering professional and my involvement with the community,” said Mallela. “I believe in the Society of Women Engineer’s tagline: Aspire, Advance, Achieve and try to live by it every day.”

The announcement of this year’s New Faces of Engineering coincides with Engineers Week, which takes place February 16-22, 2014. In order to highlight this week and the New Faces Award, Mallela took part in a national media tour where she participated in numerous local and national interviews.
