MINNEAPOLIS, May 7, 2014 – Starkey Hearing Technologies, one of the world’s leading hearing technology companies, is pleased to announce the 2014 winners of the Starkey Signal Processing Research Student Grant. Po-Sen Huang and Minje Kim from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) were awarded this year’s grant for their paper entitled "Deep Learning for Monaural Speech Separation."
The Starkey Signal Processing Research Student Grant, sponsored by Starkey Hearing Technologies, honors the student(s) of an outstanding paper in the areas of assisted listening technologies, speech enhancement and low-power, real-time, embedded design for hearing instruments. The winning paper is accepted for publication in ICASSP sponsored by the IEEE Signal Processing Society. The grant is a cash grant in the amount of 1000 euros, which is to be used by the recipient(s) to attend the 2014 ICASSP, May 4-9, 2014, in Florence, Italy.
Huang is a Ph.D. student in department of electrical and computer engineering at UIUC. He studies machine learning and signal processing for audio and speech processing, and natural language processing with Professor Mark Hasegawa-Johnson. Huang received his B.S. in electrical engineering from National Taiwan University and M.S. in electrical science engineering from UIUC in 2008 and 2011, respectively.
Kim is a Ph.D. student majoring in computer science at UICC. He received his B.E. and M.S. in computer science from Ajou University and POSTECH in 2004 and 2006, respectively. His research includes topics in machine learning and signal processing.
