Web site offers information about current activities and paid research opportunities

Berkely, Calif.—(November 29, 2005)
— The Starkey Hearing Research Center (SHRC) announces the release of its new Internet site, www.starkeyresearch.com. This new web site provides information about the center's ongoing activities to develop new hearing instrument technologies. Located in Berkeley, Calif., the SHRC is Starkey Laboratories' principal research facility.

"We are excited to give our colleagues a current snapshot of the center," said Dr. Brent Edwards, SHRC's Executive Director. "Our new web site allows us to share our latest research findings, published papers, and upcoming lectures and conferences."

The site also offers opportunities for hearing impaired individuals in the San Francisco Bay area to become paid research subjects. "We are happy to have online information that helps potential candidates with hearing loss get involved in our research," said Edwards. Application forms and other contact information can be found at the site.

Edwards said the SHRC's primary goal is to conduct research on hearing impairment and translate the results into new technologies that will improve the quality of life for people suffering from hearing loss. SHRC staff includes scientists from a variety of fields who work with researchers from area universities. Edwards added that interdisciplinary interaction among engineers, psychologists, physiologists and clinicians ensures that research results in more beneficial future hearing instrument applications.

"We hope our new online presence will help facilitate the positive exchange of information for the benefit of the hearing community," said Edwards.
