Minneapolis, Sept. 29, 2010 - Starkey Laboratories, Inc., a global leader in hearing technology, is proud to announce that the Starkey Hearing Foundation teamed up with the 2009 World Champion New York Yankees to deliver the gift of hearing to nearly 100 underserved hearing impaired children in the New York area. The mission, sponsored by FedEx was held last weekend at Yankee Stadium. Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Sam Moore attended the mission and sang the national anthem for the game.
"There is no greater gift than to help a child smile, laugh, sing, read, learn and grow - basically having the life that is unavailable due to a hearing disability," says Bill Austin, Chief Executive Officer of Starkey and Founder of the Starkey Hearing Foundation. "If you close your eyes you can hear in your mind all of the amazing sounds at a baseball game. My mission in life is to share that, especially with the children of New York."
Some other very special volunteers were in attendance including Hall of Fame pitcher Whitey Ford;former Yankee pitcher Dennis Rasmussen;American Idol and Broadway music star Jordin Sparks;Alan Kalter from the CBS Late Show;Gabe Saporta, lead singer from the band Cobra Starship;former Miss America Heather Whitestone McCallum;and actors Yul Vazquez and Dominic Chianese.
