William F. Austin Scholarship and Outstanding Student Clinician Awards Announced
Minneapolis, Sept. 6, 2011 - Starkey Laboratories, Inc., one of the world's leading hearing technology companies, is pleased to announce this year's recipients of the William F. Austin Scholarship and the Outstanding Student Clinician Awards. The winners were chosen from among nearly 140 applicants to receive academic scholarships of up to $10,000.
"It is incredibly gratifying to be able to provide scholarships to students around the country through this program," said Sara Burdak, Director of Education and Training for Starkey. "Providing students with the opportunity to pursue their goals is important to not only Starkey but also for the industry's future."
Starkey is dedicated to professional advancement through education. Its William F. Austin Scholarship recognizes outstanding audiology graduate students pursuing clinical, teaching and research careers in audiology. This year's scholarship recipients are Imola Major, San Diego State University and University of California-San Diego;Andy Lau, Salus University George S. Osborne College of Audiology;Alexandra Parbery-Clark, Northwestern University;Jennifer Fowler, University of Iowa;and Brittany Hensley, University of Florida-College of Public Health and Health Professions.
Starkey also provides 10 Outstanding Student Clinician scholarships to students pursuing careers in clinical audiology and private practice. This year's recipients are Julie Wheeler, University of Oklahoma Health Science Center;Kari Morgenstein, University of Florida;Kristin Baldwin, Long Island Au.D. Consortium;Mary Catherine Denman, University of Pittsburgh;Viral Tejani, University of Maryland;Courtney Luffler, Northeast Ohio Au.D. Consortium/University of Akron;Dana Matthyssen, Missouri State University;Deyanira Gonzalez, Lamar University;Dyanna Hamstra, Purdue University;and Jacqueline Hackbarth, University of Iowa.
