Minneapolis, October 2009 - Starkey Laboratories, Inc., one of the world's leading hearing technology companies, is proud to announce that the third issue of the Starkey Audiology Series, entitled Time-Based Expectations and the Communication Needs Assessment by Robert Sweetow, Ph.D., is now available on StarkeyPro.com.

The Starkey Audiology Series is a series of opinion papers by renowned experts in the field of audiology that is available online at StarkeyPro.com in the Audiology & Education section. Two other editions have published in 2009, Diagnosis and Management of Pediatric Auditory Neuropathy by Deborah Hayes, Ph.D., and Ecologically Valid Measures of Hearing Aid Performance by James Jerger, Ph.D. One more edition is forthcoming for 2009. The articles are accompanied by an online bulletin board where readers can post comments, questions, critiques and requests for additional information from the authors.

Barry Freeman, Ph.D., Senior Director of Education and Audiology, and Jerry Northern, Ph.D., Director of Professional Services, are in charge of compiling and editing the Starkey Audiology Series. Freeman was chair and a professor in the audiology department at Nova Southeastern University in Florida and spent more than 20 years in private practice. He also served as president and as a member of the board of directors for the American Academy of Audiology (AAA), from which he received the Distinguished Achievement Award in 2006. Northern is a prolific writer with two textbooks on his roster including Hearing in Children (5th edition, 2003) and Hearing Disorders. He served as professor of otolaryngology and director of audiology services at the University of Colorado School of Medicine for 26 years and is a former editor of Audiology Today as well as a founding member of the AAA and former president of the organization.
