PHILADELPHIA, -- The Center for Community and Professional Services (CCPS) at The Pennsylvania School for the Deaf, 100 West School House Lane in Germantown, will offer an 8-week Beginners Speechreading (Lip-reading) course. Classes will meet on Thursday afternoons, from 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. beginning on Thursday, February 28th and ending on Thursday, April 25th. The cost of the course is $70.

CCPS has been offering Speechreading (Lip-reading) classes for the past few years. "Speechreading" is the preferred term because when one speaks, both facial expressions as well as lips are used. In the classes a series of practice exercises are employed to learn how sounds appear on the lips. Role-playing is also used in a variety of situations. Related subjects such as use of hearing aids and assistive listening devices for the telephone, TV and auditoriums, as well as vibrating systems and flashing lights/alarms will also be discussed.

For more information about CCPS' upcoming Speechreading (Lip-reading) classes to be held at The Pennsylvania School for the Deaf, please call 215-754-4770 (voice/tty).
