Compression & Hearing Aids
Contributing Editor, Pamela Souza, Ph.D., starts us off this month with her paper titled, Translating Compression Research Into Clinical Decisions. The next time you start to click the "First Fit" button, be sure and have this article by your side.
Speech Audiometry & Hearing Aids
Also, while warming up your audiometer and CD player, take a look at the paper by Contributing Editor, Brian Taylor, Au.D., titled, Predicting Hearing Aid Benefit Using Speech Audiometry. Using an evidenced-based review, Dr. Taylor asks if we should use speech audiometry as a pre and post-fitting measure for hearing aids.
Other Items of Note:
The Buffalo Model Soldiers On
Many of you are familiar with Jack Katz, Ph.D., and his Handbook of Clinical Audiology, (I have the edition with the pinkish cover). He is also well known as the developer of the SSW (Staggered Spondaic Word) Test and the Buffalo Model for diagnosing APD. An Audiology Online member a few months back requested information on how to use the results of the Buffalo test battery to develop a customized therapy program for a patient diagnosed with APD. This month, to help answer this request, Dr. Katz has published a paper titled, APD Evaluation to Therapy: The Buffalo Model.
Around the Web in 60 Seconds
The current edition of "Around the Web" (ATW) includes information on: iPods cause more than just hearing loss, a bone conduction headset for mobile phones, a case of spider ear, storm warnings for the hearing-impaired, an update on the bluetooth headset hearing loss lawsuit, how to get "high" using your mp3 player using binaural beats (or not), getting the message of hearing conservation to kids and much more. Read about these and other stories in the latest edition of ATW.
