Phonak Infinio - Unlock a world of possibilities

SmartGuard: the Ultimate Way to Beat Wax and Moisture

Share:
Stäfa, Switzerland, April 2007. The revolutionary SmartGuard system from Phonak effectively protects hearing devices against damage caused by wax and moisture, and significantly increases their lifetime. Acoustically transparent and membrane-based, it unites breakthrough technology with unmatched ease of use.

Cerumen occlusion accounts for no fewer than two out of three repairs carried out on custom hearing instruments during the first two years after fitting. But now that's all about to change with the pathbreaking new SmartGuard system from Phonak, the most advanced wax protection technology currently available. SmartGuard is a thin, highly elastic polymer membrane that is laser-bonded onto a carrier ring to create an acoustically transparent barrier. This prevents wax and moisture from entering the sound port, guarantees optimum performance and at the same time significantly increases the instrument's lifetime.

"With SmartGuard, we've eliminated the number one reason for repairs in hearing instruments and made them considerably more reliable," explains Dr. Thomas Lang, Director Product Management at Phonak. "On top of that, SmartGuard is unique because it's compatible with all custom devices, even those with output levels above 120dB SPL, and can be used with all custom shell sizes, CIC, full shell and even microPower xReceiver shells."

For users it means no more plugged-up receivers or sound ports and no more having to manage without their hearing systems because of wax-related repairs. Maintenance - a daily wipe with a cloth - couldn't be easier, and the membrane itself only needs replacing every two months. Dispensers, on the other hand, can look forward to happier customers and are now able to offer a real solution to a problem that may be common but is always a major frustration for users.
