Siemens Pioneers World's First BTE Designed for Infants with Hearing Loss

Share:
PISCATAWAY, N.J., March 23, 2004 - Siemens Hearing Instruments announces the addition of PRISMA™ 2 K BTE, designed especially for infants with hearing loss, to its PRISMA 2 family of hearing solutions. Extremely small and lightweight, PRISMA 2 K's fully digital, multi-channel automatic sound processing adjusts incoming signals automatically, reducing the need for external controls, while maintaining optimum sound as determined by the instrument's programming.

"As a result of the advances in medical technology and the efforts of pediatric audiologists, more infants than ever before are detected with hearing loss before they leave the hospital," said Pamela Burton, director of Product Management for Siemens Hearing Instruments. "With this early identification comes the responsibility of fitting these infants with appropriate and effective amplification so speech and language skills can fully develop, when possible. PRISMA 2 K responds to the special needs of infants with hearing loss."

PRISMA 2 K was engineered to address the specific needs of infants with hearing loss, their parents and caregivers, and Pediatric Audiologists who work with them. External switches and controls have been minimized in the PRISMA 2 K to simplify the operation for parents and caregivers, and eliminate the worry that an infant's head or hand movements may interfere with the instrument's operation. A programmable volume control can be used in case of fluctuating hearing loss.

In addition, its small, lightweight design also makes PRISMA 2 K BTE a cosmetically appealing solution for adults with mild to moderate hearing loss. PRISMA 2 K features a fully digital 4-channel amplifier with Voice Activity Detection, microphone noise reduction and adaptive feedback suppression. For more information on
