Aquaris, Pure Carat, Nitro BTEs and miniTek showcased at BSHAA 2011

Siemens Hearing Instruments has strengthened its retail product range with a series of new launches. Showcased at the BSHAA Congress 2011, recent additions include Aquaris™, Siemens' first waterproof, dust and shock-resistant device;Pure Carat, a new addition to the Pure family and the only rechargeable receiver-in-canal (RIC) instrument;Nitro™ SP behind-the-ear (BTE) instruments;and miniTek™, a multifunctional device that acts as both a remote control and an automatic streamer.

Aquaris features a special casing with a sealed battery compartment, a watertight but air-permeable microphone membrane and a protective cover. Its innovative housing safeguards against corrosion while its ergonomic shape and soft-touch lacquering make it virtually shockproof. Aquaris is ideal for anyone with hearing impairment that has an active lifestyle or spends time in a damp or dusty environment.

Pure Carat is a new addition to the Pure family, the only rechargeable RIC instruments available on the market today. It includes Siemens' BestSound™ Technology for enhanced hearing comfort even in difficult, noisy environments. The device offers four different external receiver sizes, including a High Power version, to combine minimal size with maximum power. This makes it the ideal choice for those with severe hearing loss that have not been able to benefit from RIC solutions before.

The new Nitro™ 301 SP and 701 SP BTE instruments are designed to deliver more clarity, comfort and control to amplify the decibels of life for individuals with severe hearing loss. Offering up to 141/80 dB of broadband output and gain, the instruments automatically increase the volume of low frequency sounds such as vowels to give a better understanding of speech and improve perception of loudness. The new Nitro instruments also feature intelligent and automatic voice and noise management features to reduce extraneous noises and amplify the spoken word. Sophisticated feedback cancellation and directional microphones further provide a more natural listening experience for the user.

Weighing just 55g, miniTek allows users to change programs and adjust volume while the sound from any Bluetooth® audio device is wirelessly streamed directly into the hearing instruments. Offering greater sound quality, convenience and comfort, it is a natural technology progression from the Tek™ that Siemens has been supplying since 2008.

"People with a severe hearing impairment are often only able to hear sounds within an extremely limited range while those with an active lifestyle may struggle to find an instrument that fits their needs," said Nicola Webster, Retail Product Manager at Siemens Hearing Instruments. "These new instruments offer maximum functionality and ease-of-use to further highlight our commitment to meeting all of our customers' requirements."
