Factory of the Future Offers Customer Interaction, Rejuvenates City Property
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Siemens Hearing Instruments announced the grand opening of its newest facility in La Mirada, California.
Designed to serve the company's growth needs, the new facility houses revolutionary technology developed by Siemens to further improve quality of life for the hearing impaired and deliver advanced products with world class quality and reliability.
A state-of-the-art, 28,000 square foot manufacturing facility that houses Siemens' fourth LasR™ (Laser Accurate Scan Replication) lab in the country, it is the largest satellite facility serving the western United States. LasR™ is Siemens' exclusive manufacturing process that utilizes digital mechanical assembly technology, precision laser scanning and cutting-edge computer software to create more accurate and comfortably fitting hearing instruments.
Part of the new facility's unique history is that it is built on the location of a former movie theater, which closed in 1999. The site of the abandoned building was a clean slate for Siemens, the leading hearing instrument manufacturer in the U.S., who razed the existing structure and designed its new building to serve the company's growth needs. The building is 40 percent larger than its previous California facility. The structure offers Siemens the ability to expand to capitalize on 30 percent additional manufacturing capacity at this facility.
"We were very fortunate to find this location in La Mirada," said Chris Marxen, Siemens' director of manufacturing and operations. "By designing the building in the way that we did, we not only met our needs but assisted the city of La Mirada with rejuvenating some of their city space. The site is only three miles from our former facility in Cerritos, so we are not dramatically changing the environment for our employees, but are enhancing the work environment with the most advanced manufacturing equipment available."
"La Mirada represents one more strategic step in our continued process of fostering partnership, interaction and communication with our Hearing Care Partners," said William J. Lankenau, president and chief executive officer, Siemens Hearing Instruments. "We are committed to building the most advanced facilities and to employing progressive technologies, enabling us to develop the products vital to advancing the quality of life for the hearing impaired. Our LasR technology and this new facility are truly the beginning of the next generation of manufacturing hearing instruments."
The La Mirada facility employs 120 employees, including an audiology team, customer service, sales, manufacturing and repair departments. The facility is also equipped with a conference and learning center and will be easily accessible to customers on the west coast for tours and educational sessions.
The facility is located at Gateway Center Plaza, 14351 Firestone Blvd., La Mirada, CA, 90638. Calls should be directed to (800) 998-9787.
