PISCATAWAY, N.J., April 29, 2004 - On February 24, 2004, Siemens Hearing Instruments teamed with the American Heart Association for their first Go Red for Women Campaign. Go Red For Women is the American Heart Association's national call for women to take charge of their health and live stronger, healthier lives.
During the month of February, the American Heart Association launched its national Go Red for Women campaign to raise awareness of heart disease as the number one killer of women. Earlier this year, President Bush declared Friday, February 6 "National Wear Red Day for Women," and asked people across the country to wear red to demonstrate their commitment to fighting this killer. Wear Red Day is a component of Go Red For Women, the American Heart Association's national campaign to raise awareness of heart disease in women and encourage women to take charge of their health.
On Wear Red Day Siemens employees donated $5 to the American Heart Association so they could wear red and jeans on a designated day. Money raised will benefit research and education to help reduce the incidence of heart disease in women.
"At Siemens Hearing Instruments, more than 760 employees participated in the campaign because for many of them, heart disease is personal," said William Lankenau, president and CEO of Siemens Hearing Instruments. "Wear Red Day is an opportunity for everyone to remember their friends and family members who have suffered from the disease. It's also a time to think about their own hearts and take charge of their own health."
Colletta Barrett, RN, MHA, FAHA, Chairman of the Board, American Heart Association said, "Siemens Hearing Instruments and companies across the nation are really putting their passion into action by participating in the Wear Red Day campaign. Their generosity is helping to heighten awareness and bring forth positive change to defeat this major health threat."
