After decades of advances in instrument circuitry, a new generation of wax protection debuts on the market.
Minneapolis, Minnesota, April 6, 2006 (AudiologyNOW 2006) - Receivers clogged with cerumen and debris remain the number one reason for hearing instrument failure and repairs. Siemens Hearing Instruments reinforces its commitment to innovation and quality with the introduction of C-Guard™, the next generation of wax protection. The only wax guard to use the latest in wax proofing technology, C-Guard effectively seals the receiver of custom instruments with a membrane-like barrier to protect from cerumen and moisture. This impermeable barrier is acoustically transparent so it does not affect the hearing instrument response. An available option on all CENTRA™, ACURIS™ and ARTIS™ e2e custom hearing instrument styles from Micro-CIC to ITE, C-Guard is initially installed during the manufacturing process.
"Real wax guard protection is important in avoiding unnecessary instrument failure and repairs," explains Pamela Burton, Director of U.S. Product Management for Siemens Hearing Instruments. "In the past, wax protection systems often didn't meet expectations, requiring ongoing maintenance, frequent changing, as well as good vision and a high level of dexterity from wearers. Even when used properly, moist cerumen could penetrate them and cause receiver damage, so many professionals don't recommend wax guards at all. C-Guard is a promising new technology that offers better reliability, simple operation and real satisfaction."
Long lasting and with very little maintenance required, C-Guard is simple to use for wearers. A special ergonomic tool was designed for and successfully tested by typical hearing instrument wearers to ensure that C-Guard is simple to use. One side of the tool is for removal and the other for insertion. Between changes, C-Guard can be wiped with a clean tissue. No special cleaning tools or procedures are required. Due to the elimination of wax loops, brushes and other tools, Hearing Care Professionals can spend more time counseling wearers about their hearing instruments, which can result in an increase in overall patient satisfaction.
