Las Vegas, NV. April 1, 2016. The Independent Global Technology Innovation Society (IGTIS) awarded the prestigious 2016 Star of IGTIS to Danish tech giant Jacobus Industries, for sEARi,a hearing instrument with an on-board assistant designed after Apple’s Siri, introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
IGTIS President and Chief Innovation Officer Werd Laud stated, “sEARi represents the future of hearable technology, by providing wearers with an on-board intelligent hearing companion that enables them to speak naturally to control the device. It is innovation at its best - a feat of engineering achievement and aesthetic design suited for practical application, while allowing cyborg-like capabilities.”
sEARi understands and responds to verbal commands and questions from the wearer. In an effort to appeal to audiologists, who will sell and fit the device, sEARi’s on-board assistant is named Jerger, for distinguished American audiologist Dr. James Jerger. The device responds to such commands as: “Jerger, please turn down (or up) the volume”; “Jerger, how many hours do I have left in my batteries?”; or, “Jerger, am I talking too loud?” Audiologist Dr. Brian Urban, who participated in sEARi beta trials, stated, “Throughout my career, I’ve relied on the clinical guidance of Dr. Jerger, and it’s great to know that my patients will now be helped by sEARi Jerger.”
sEARi also includes a variety of health-related monitoring and tracking capabilities, including heart rate, temperature, and daily steps. Space permitting, a larger receiver can be used, which will emit a citrus scent in the ear canal to keep the wearer feeling clean and fresh.
sEARi will be available in select EU countries on April 1, and is pending FDA approval in the U.S. Jacobus executives indicate that plans for sEARi 2.0 are already underway, and will be unveiled at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show. Tech industry insiders indicate that sEARi 2.0 will include a personal drone with a remote microphone that will enable the wearer to hear conversations up to a mile away.
