Apr 9, 2007- Sandy Keener, MA, audiologist and clinical instructor with the University of Kansas School of Allied Health, was named the 2006 Audiologist of the Year by the Kansas Speech- Language- Hearing Association.
Keener has served children and their families across Kansas for nearly two decades. She was the first clinician in Kansas to incorporate the otoacoustic emission (OAE) test in her pediatric diagnostic protocol.
"Sandy Keener has played a vital role as both a clinician and clinical educator in the Hearing and Speech Department at the KU Medical Center," said Dean Karen Miller, PhD, and senior vice chancellor for KUMC academic and student affairs. "She is widely recognized for her expertise in pediatric diagnostic hearing testing, as well as cochlear implantation in children."
One of Keener's primary strengths is her interdisciplinary focus. She collaborates with speech-language pathologists, early interventionists, physicians, occupational and physical therapists, psychologists and audiology colleagues who work in hospitals, schools and private practice. Keener currently serves on the Sound Beginnings Advisory Committee for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
