Advances in Amplification: Meeting the Needs of Aging Adults
November 7 - 11, 2011

Bloomington, MN. September 12, 2011. ReSound, the technology leader in hearing aid solutions, is hosting an online conference entitled Advances in Amplification: Meeting the Needs of Aging Adults, from November 7 - 11, 2011 on AudiologyOnline.

This dynamic online symposium brings together leading experts in amplification, rehabilitation and business practices in order to share the latest research in meeting the hearing needs of older adults. The conference is designed for audiologists, audiology students, and other professionals who serve the hearing needs of older adults, such as otolaryngologists and hearing instrument dispensers. The goal of the conference is to provide professionals with the latest knowledge and tools to help their aging patients embrace today's advanced solutions to improve their hearing and their lives.

The conference agenda includes a keynote presentation by Laurel Christensen, Ph.D., Chief Audiology Officer at ReSound, on the current status of addressing the amplification needs of an aging population. Kathy Pichora-Fuller, Ph.D., full professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Toronto, will discuss how hearing loss may affect cognitive performance and how rehabilitation might promote cognitive health for the aging adult. She will also address overcoming psychological factors such as stereotypes and self-efficacy to improve patient outcomes. Lorienne Jenstad, Ph.D., clinical audiologist at the University of British Columbia, will focus on the effects of amplification and signal processing for older adults and the barriers to hearing aid uptake, and will provide clinical considerations for optimizing success with this population. Hillary Snapp, Au.D., clinical audiologist and assistant professor at the University of Miami Ear Institute, will present the benefits of wireless technology, and provide a clinically feasible approach to integrating wireless technology into the evaluation and fitting process for older adults. Matt Perry, Au.D., will present on the latest marketing approaches with attention to this special population.

The conference is designed with one live seminar occurring each day of the week, from 12 - 1 pm Eastern/9 - 10 am Pacific on AudiologyOnline. Up to .5 continuing education units (CEUs) from a variety of professional associations are offered for AudiologyOnline CEU Total Access members. Sessions will also be recorded and available for viewing after the event.
