Report of the Consensus Conference on the Diagnosis of Auditory Processing Disorders in School-Aged Children

Share:

Over the 2-day period from April 27-28, 2000 a group of 14 senior scientists and clinicians met at the Callier Center for Communicative Disorders, The University of Texas at Dallas, to attempt to reach a consensus on the problem of diagnosing auditory processing disorders in children. The conference was organized by James Jerger and Frank Musiek. The report has been published in the Journal of the American Academy of Audiology (volume 11, no.9, October 2000,467-474).

The report recommends that a new and better screening test be developed. Two specific elements, a dichotic digit test and a gap-detection test were recommended. For the subsequent diagnosis of children who fail the screen, a minimal test battery consisting of five behavioral measures and 3 electrophysiological measures was recommended. For complete details the entire report may be reviewed at the American Academy of Audiology website at www.Audiology.com.
