Record Numbers Aiming to Make a Difference on Capitol Hill in 2010

Share:
January 27, 2010 - A great way to get involved in advocacy is through Capitol Hill visits. In 2010, several groups will be visiting Washington, DC to lobby legislators on the hill. Taking part in the political process and speaking up on the issues affecting the professions is an integral part of the American democratic system—and an opportunity not to be missed!

This year, the following groups have already or will be participating in a Capitol Hill lobby day:

  • National Black Association of Speech Language Hearing (NBASLH)—January 28 (completed)
  • National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA)—February 26
  • ASHA's Health Care Economics Committee—March 12
  • ASHA's Audiology Advisory Council and Speech-Language Pathology Advisory Council—March 19
  • Students attending universities in the Washington, DC area who are enrolled in communications science and disorders programs—April 14
  • Audiologists who practice in the Washington, DC area—May 7
As a speech-language pathologist or audiologist you too can aim to make a difference through your own involvement in advocacy. You can impact the outcomes of local, state, and federal legislation that can and will have a profound effect on the professions and the patients served through speech-language pathology and audiology services. Learn what steps to take to make a difference in your home district or Take Action online by using ASHA's e-advocacy tool.

If you are interested in being involved in one of the above listed lobby days, or would like to have more information on visiting Capitol Hill, please contact Katie Bromley, ASHA's Director of Grassroots & Congressional Advocacy, at kbromley@asha.org or 202-624-8198.
