Course Description

Federal regulations define audiologists and physicians as the only professionals who may serve as Professional Supervisors (PS) of occupational hearing conservation programs. However, there is little guidance as to how the PS should fulfill this role. The Professional Supervisor of the Audiometric Component of the Hearing Conservation Program workshop is an intermediate-level course that outlines the scope of practice of the audiologist or physician as a PS of an occupational hearing conservation program. The course combines lecture, interactive analysis of actual employee case studies, and small group discussion. Course content includes a review of the current literature and recommended practice guidelines for review of audiograms, determination of work-related hearing loss, follow-up of work-related hearing loss, and management of the audiometric database. In addition Case studies encourage problem solving, critical thinking and small group discussion regarding employee, employer, and professional responsibilities surrounding prevention of hearing loss.

Successful completion of the course and an on-line exam leads to the Certified Professional of the Audiometric Program (CPS/A) certification.
