Plural Publishing, Inc. Debuts as Innovative Publisher for the Field of Communication Sciences and Disorders

Share:
San Diego, December 2, 2004—There is a new name in publishing for the communication sciences, a name that may seem familiar to many in the field. Plural Publishing, Inc, founded by Chairman and CEO Sadanand Singh, Ph.D., debuted at this year's American Speech Hearing Association (ASHA) convention in Philadelphia, PA in November 2004. The small publishing house produces leading academic, scientific and clinical books, journals, videos, and electronic and virtual media primarily in the fields of speech-language pathology, audiology, and otolaryngology, as well as in the closely related multidisciplinary fields of oncology, gastroenterology, pediatrics and the neurosciences. This narrow, discipline-specific focus allows Plural Publishing to devote itself to producing quality publications that will have a significant impact on academic, clinical and professional advancements in these professions.

The new company is the latest in a number of successful ventures by Dr. Singh, who before beginning Plural Publishing spearheaded the successful College-Hill Press and Singular Publishing, Inc, both sold to larger publishing houses: College-Hill Press to Time, Inc. in 1986, and Singular to Delmar Publishing in 1998. "Oh, I get it! You were Singular and now you're Plural," was the common reaction to the new publishing company at its ASHA debut.

Dr. Singh, together with his wife, Angie Singh, founded Plural Publishing in July 2004 and expects the company's first titles to be released in May 2005. The Singh's launched the company with the express intention of serving as a conscientious publishing house for disciplines whose publishing needs were not being met. Dr. Singh and a group of proactive, highly selected advisers envision Plural Publishing, Inc. as an exceptionally informed, vital, responsive and dominant leader in its dynamic marketplace, and a company that holds the interests of the medical profession at heart.

In announcing the formation of the company, Dr Singh stated, "Once again, through Plural Publishing, we aim to take the disciplines we serve forward in an innovative and meaningful way. We plan to develop new and ground-breaking products and widen the scope of communication disorders across a range of disciplines. Already, we have plans to publish books and other electronic media products that will help take the science, understanding, assessment and treatment of communication disorders to a new, higher level in a way that no other publisher can, or will do. We look forward to serving our authors, our communities and their patients and clients with the same diligence, intelligence and passion that we applied to our other ventures. College-Hill begat Singular and Plural will become our new Singular, many times over!"

Dr. Sadanand Singh, founder and co-founder of Plural Publishing is an active member, contributor and Fellow of the American Speech-Hearing-Language Association (ASHA). He has been a Professor and Department Chair at four universities and has served on the advisory boards of some of the leading universities in the United States. His observations of the needs in health care education led him to extend himself into the publishing arena.
