Warrenville, IL – August 25, 2015 – Phonak, leading manufacturer of hearing technology launched its partnership with Songs for Sound, a national charity dedicated to improving the quality of life for the 36 million people in the United States with hearing loss.
Central to the charitable efforts is the 12-week nationwide “HEARoes Tour” that kicked off last weekend at the Chicago Air & Water Show. The HEARoes Tour is a mobile hearing health campaign sponsored by Phonak that travels around the country visiting air shows, schools and clinics totaling more than 60 stops and reaching more than five million people in an effort to help raise awareness around hearing health and prevention. The tour specifically focuses on encouraging veterans and their families to test their hearing, given that hearing loss is the number one disability reported among troops returning from active duty. All attendees at the events will receive free hearing screenings, equipment demos and other information.
Supporting the awareness campaign is stage, film, television and country music star Laura Bell Bundy who will perform at major air shows across the U.S. while country singer and television personality Jessie James Decker will close out the HEARoes Tour at the Blue Angels Homecoming Air Show in Pensacola on Nov. 7.
HEARoes Tour air show stops with free hearing screenings include:
Aug. 22-23 - KANSAS CITY AIR SHOW (Kansas City, MO)
Aug. 28-Sept. 3 - AMERICAN LEGION NATIONAL CONVENTION (Baltimore, MD)
Sept. 18-19 - JOINT BASE ANDREWS AIR SHOW (JB Andrews, MD)
Oct. 24-25 - SEA & SKY SPECTACULAR (Jacksonville, FL)
Oct. 31-Nov. 1 - GREAT GEORGIA AIR SHOW (Peach Tree City, GA)
Nov. 7-8 - BLUE ANGELS HOMECOMING AIR SHOW (Pensacola, FL)
“This opportunity is an excellent way for Phonak to actively promote our own initiative to encourage more people, especially veterans to take care of their hearing sooner and promote hearing technology as a viable solution for their hearing loss,” said Bill Dickinson, AuD, Vice President of Audiology at Phonak.
“Attendees at the Chicago Air & Water Show were really thankful for the hearing screening,” Dr. Dickinson explained. “One woman was so excited and told us that this was the push that she needed to do something about her hearing. Our favorite fan of the program was a veteran who came up just to say thank you. He told us, ‘I have been wearing Phonak hearing aids from the VA for years, and they have made a huge difference in my life. I can hear my grandkids. My hearing helps keep me young.’
“I don’t think it gets any more rewarding than to hear firsthand how Phonak technology has impacted someone’s life in such a positive way,” Dr. Dickinson concluded.
