Phonak continuously strives to develop innovative technology that appeals to the pediatric population. In the September Pediatric Newsletter, Phonak introduced a CD-ROM crossword puzzle, SoundCheck, presented in an audio format as opposed to the traditional pen and paper game. This interactive technology challenges hearing-impaired teenagers, ages 10 to 15 years, to rely on their listening skills to complete a puzzle that is geared towards their interests and every day life.
This new multimedia, created by Frans Conix, may be viewed as entertainment to the average teen, but actually packs in unique listening strategies beneficial to hearing and hearing-impaired users alike. SoundCheck spans four levels of difficulty; Level 1 being the easiest with the most auditory support, and Level 4 being the most difficult with added noise and sound disturbances. Users must engage their speech, language, and listening skills to advance from one level to the next.
SoundCheck is currently available in 3 different languages and is available from Phonak Hearing Systems.
