Reston, Virginia - March 2, 2012 - The American Academy of Audiology Foundation announced that it will offer Influencer: How to Create Change in Your Audiology Workplace as its inaugural Improving Patient Care through Innovation in Workplace Management Lecture at AudiologyNOW! 2012. The Influencer lecture will be presented by Candace Bertotti, MPA, PMP, a member of the VitalSmarts™ Facilitator Faculty.

This Influencer training is funded by the AAA Foundation with an educational grant from Phonak LLC. Phonak has committed to funding a series of educational programs focused on workplace challenges in operational and business management faced by audiologists in all practice settings. "Phonak is very pleased to sponsor these educational programs," said Phonak President and CEO Mike Orscheln. "We trust that they will offer providers applicable information and methodologies to help them better develop their staff, market their practice, drive efficiencies and improve patient satisfaction. All with the goal of enriching the lives of those with hearing loss while bringing more patients through the door to improve your business."

Influencer training, based on the book Influencer: The Power to Change Anything. is one of the VitalSmarts products that has helped more than 300 of the Fortune 500 realize significant results using a proven method for driving rapid, sustainable and measurable change in behaviors. Audiologists must frequently resolve challenging and persistent behavioral dilemmas in the workplace. These problems might range from patients who are resistant to new technology, to staff or students whose customer service skills "need improvement," to a peer who regularly omits important information from patient records. Ms. Bertotti's Influencer presentation will deliver a powerful new science of influence that draws from more than five decades of the best social science research designed to improve key organizational outcomes by focusing on high-leverage skills and strategies. This interactive session will provide practical tools and a portable model for changing behaviors, with the potential to result in better outcomes for patients.

Ms. Bertotti earned a master's of public administration at Harvard University, BA at Indiana University, master's certificate in project management at The George Washington University, and her Education Policy Certificate at the University of Virginia. She has addressed a wide variety of audiences, ranging from large employee trainings to executive retreats. Her past clients have included Honda Manufacturing, Bristol Myers Squibb, Eli Lilly, NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Johnson & Johnson, AARP and the Chicago Board of Trade. Her enthusiastic approach and passion for the subject matter make for presentations that deliver powerful results.

Richard Danielson, PhD, chair of the AAA Foundation, comments that "Ms. Bertotti's presentation will prove to be invaluable for audiologists seeking effective methods of influencing clear and measurable behavior changes in others, as well as in ourselves. The Foundation thanks Phonak for their generous and forward-thinking support to this new form of endowed lectureship, which has a rich potential to directly benefit managers, clinicians, educators, and researchers."

ABA Tier One continuing education credit will be available, and the Influencer session will be Webcast live from Boston in two parts on March 31 (Part I-10:00-11:30 am ET and Part II-2:00-3:30 pm ET). It will also be offered on-demand on the American Academy of Audiology's eAudiology Web seminar platform through June 30. Free registration for these online sessions is available at www.eAudiology.org
