This News Release is an ''update'' regardingthe PCO School of Audiology and the status of it's AuDonline.org. distance education program. Audiology Online requested this information from Dr. Osborne to help keep the readers of AO informed as to Au.D. opportunities.
The PCO School of Audiology distance education program consists of 40 individual 6-week courses taught by specialists who practice in each area. The program is 100% internet based, and is accessible 24 hours a day. A toll free telephone helpdesk provides students and instructors assistance with all computer issues and is available ''24/7''. The School of Audiology offers six, 6-week sessions per calendar year.
Courses run for six weeks with a two-week break between sessions. There are no classes in December. Students can take more than one course per session or they can choose to sit out a session if they wish.
Winter 2, 2001 session statistics: 103 students occupying 114 seats in 6 courses. Average class size is 19. Students are enrolled from across the US, Pakistan, Alaska, Labrador, Canada, and New Zealand. Based on a personal interview and the EPAC profile, a personalized curriculum is established for each student. To date the number of
courses required for completion of the Au.D. ranges from 7 to 27 courses with an average of 12.
The average cost is $5,500 over approximately 2 years.
