Schaumburg, June 2011 - GN Otometrics, the world leader in hearing and balance diagnostic systems, celebrated two milestone anniversaries with a gala dinner on May 12 at the Allerton in downtown Chicago: the 30th anniversary of ICS, its balance assessment brand, and the 10th anniversary of its partnership with Dr. Kamran Barin, director of the Balance Disorders Clinic at The Ohio State University Medical Center. The celebration marked the mid-point of a year-long celebration that focuses on the brand's innovative history in balance assessment.
More than 1,600 healthcare professionals have participated in Dr. Barin's VNG/ENG courses
Dr. Barin has worked with Otometrics for 10 years as an educational speaker about balance disorders. Over the course of more than 25 seminars, he has worked with over 1000 Audiologists, physicians, physical therapists and technicians who perform and interpret balance disorder testing on a daily basis. Dr. Barin received an engraved commemorative pen at the dinner in honor of the milestone occasion.
In addition to his role as director of the Balance Disorders Clinic at The Ohio State University Medical Center, Dr. Barin is the assistant professor in several departments including otolaryngology-head and neck surgery, speech and hearing science, and the biomedical engineering program. He received his Master's degree and Doctorate in electrical/biomedical engineering from The Ohio State University. He teaches national and international courses in areas of vestibular assessment.
GN Otometrics acquired ICS Medical in 2000, which added balance assessment to its growing product portfolio. The future of the ICS brand will include the design of new integrated solutions that will continue to help healthcare professionals make the best possible assessment and treatment decisions.
Otometrics has achieved many "firsts" since Professor Paul Madsen revolutionized the industry with the world's first electro-acoustic "impedance bridge." Amongst these milestones are the first commercially available ABR/ERA instrument, the first air caloric irrigator, the first REM system, the first PC-based system for electronystagmography (ENG), the first integrated fitting system with audiometry, REM and HIT and most recently the first cross-over clinical audiometer.
