SOMERSET, NJ May 1 – Oticon RemoteCare, a new telehealth solution that allows hearing care professionals to follow up online with patients to remotely adjust and fine-tune hearing aids in a virtual appointment, is now available through the Veterans Affairs Administration, Department of Defense and other federal agencies. Oticon RemoteCare expands the potential for VA audiologists to assist more veterans remotely, helping them to meet vital hearing healthcare needs when in-person appointments cannot take place or when veterans are unable to travel to the office. The launch of RemoteCare follows a successful collaboration of more than three years with the Veterans Administration to pilot the new telehealth solution through VA audiologists in select VA clinics.
“The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is leading the way in telehealth innovation to ensure veterans can access care when and where they need it,” says David Horowitz, AuD, Director, Oticon Government Services. “With Oticon RemoteCare, we expand that access to hearing care, empowering VA audiologists to bring vital hearing health care services to veterans for whom scheduling in-person appointments or traveling to clinics may be difficult. Oticon RemoteCare allows VA audiologists to assist patients during challenging times and support their need for better hearing.”
Scheduling Remote Real-time Adjustments
With Oticon RemoteCare, hearing care professionals communicate with patients and make real-time adjustments to the patients’ hearing aids remotely using Genie 2 fitting software, a PC camera or external camera, a microphone and speakers or headset, and a stable internet connection. Veterans with compatible Oticon hearing aids with 2.4 GHz Bluetooth® simply download the Oticon RemoteCare App and use a compatible iPhone®, iPad® or Android® phone to connect to their hearing care provider. Data is communicated securely via the internet from the patient’s hearing aids. Patients can see, hear and chat with their hearing care provider during the online appointment. The Oticon RemoteCare Guide offers step-by-step instructions for remote fittings.
