Oticon Medical Expands Team with Research and Sales Veterans

Somerset, NJ, December 20 - Oticon Medical, a global medical device company within the William Demant Group, today announced the appointment of Ravi Sockalingam, PhD, FAAA, Aud(C) as Director of Clinical Research and Professional Relations and Luis Espinoza as Director of Sales, Latin America.

As Director of Clinical Research and Professional Relations, Dr. Sockalingam is responsible for setting strategic directions and managing research in bone conduction across North America and Europe. He will tap his considerable experience in teaching and research, including his tenure as a professor of audiology at the University of Queensland, Dalhousie University in Canada, Sichuan University - West China Medical School and Canterbury University in New Zealand, to strengthen relations with leading academic institutions and centers of excellence in bone conduction implantation and audiology. A key focus for Dr. Sockalingam will be the dissemination of research findings from clinical and experimental research activities at key scientific meetings and conferences. Prior to joining Oticon Medical, Dr. Sockalingam served as senior audiologist and manager of audiology communications at Oticon's Kongebakken headquarters. He has been published in more than 25 peer-reviewed journals and has delivered keynote speeches at audiology conferences in Europe, Canada, Asia and Australia. Trained as a speech-language pathologist and an audiologist at the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia, Dr. Sockalingam has worked in both clinic and academic settings. He holds a PhD in Audiology and a Bachelor of Speech Therapy from the University of Queensland.

Luis Espinoza joins Oticon Medical as Director of Sales for Latin America. Espinoza will capitalize on his outstanding 12-year record developing the medical device industry in the Latin American market to launch Oticon Medical in Latin America. He is responsible for sales, marketing and distribution management and the development of business plans and launch strategies. In his previous position with a medical device company, Espinoza cultivated an extensive network of physicians, hospitals, clinics, medical schools and related healthcare institutions in Central and South America. Espinoza, who studied Business Management at Metropolitan State College of Denver, brings considerable experience in documentation, customs, import regulations and processes for product distribution throughout Latin America to his new position.
